Treatment

Play Your Part, Inc. currently offers individual music therapy sessions. Following an assessment, treatment options, goals, and objectives will be proposed and discussed. Music therapy sessions are generally 30-60 minutes in length, and scheduled at least once per week.

What populations do you work with?

At Play Your Part, we specialize in working with children who have a range of developmental and neurodevelopmental diagnoses, such as autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. We begin treatment as early as the diagnosis occurs through early adulthood.

An initial client assessment occurs before clinical recommendations can be made. The assessment lasts approximately one hour and is conducted to assess the client’s current skills and potential needs in the areas of: cognitive abilities, social/communication skills, motor skills, behavior, and musical preferences. Taking into consideration educational goals such as IEP’s and current assessments (speech-language, occupational, and behavioral therapies), the music therapist custom designs a well-rounded treatment approach and presents this plan to each family.

What is Music Therapy?

As defined by the American Music Therapy Association, Music Therapy is the “clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.”

Are you teaching music?

Music Therapy may not necessarily include teaching someone how to play an instrument; rather, it uses music to facilitate and achieve non-musical goals. Music Therapy is an interactive, non-threatening treatment approach that meets clients at their level, using their strengths to make positive change in behavior, socialization skills, cognitive skills, and overall well-being.
